MCPifex vs. Zapier MCP: Data Servers and App Tool Actions
Zapier MCP lets an AI app run Zapier actions from its app catalog as MCP tools, and each call uses tasks from your Zapier plan. MCPifex hosts dedicated MCP servers, like PostgreSQL, and charges by instance, not by call. Pick Zapier for reach across many SaaS apps. Pick MCPifex for a supported data server with unlimited calls.
A concrete example
Say you ask Claude: "Add this lead to our CRM and post a note in Slack." That's Zapier's home ground. You enable the CRM and Slack actions, authorize your accounts, and the agent calls them.
Now say you ask: "Which pages lost traffic last month?" That needs a Search Console server with real reporting tools. This is the kind of job MCPifex hosts. Different questions, different tools.
What Zapier MCP does
Zapier connects supported AI clients to actions from its integration catalog, which it lists at 9,000+ apps. You choose which apps and actions to enable and authorize the accounts. Those selected actions become the tools your agent can call. Zapier also lets you approve or block tool use and see execution history.
In short, it's Zapier automation with an MCP front door. It isn't a pass-through to arbitrary MCP servers, so check that the action you need exists and takes the inputs you expect.
What MCPifex does
MCPifex runs real MCP server packages for you. You create an instance, save its credentials, choose which tools are enabled, and generate an API key. Your client connects to https://mcpifex.com/mcp and sees only the tools you enabled. The quickstart walks through it.
Our gateway uses the handshake-based MCP transport. Clients on the current spec revision interoperate through the spec's backward-compatibility rules. The key works as an Authorization: Bearer mcpx_... header, or as the first path segment for clients that can't send headers. See API keys and authentication.
Tool control on both sides
Both products let you choose tools, so neither lacks tool-level control. They just differ in shape. On Zapier you pick actions and approve or block their use. On MCPifex you switch each tool on or off per instance, write tools start off, and anything outside our catalog is refused.
For example, PostgreSQL's execute tool is off by default, and the package's connect_db tool is never allowed, so a client can't re-point the server at another database. See instances and tools.
Either way, the connected account is the real boundary. A tool named "read" can expose a lot if the account can read a lot. Start with a restricted database role or app account, then select what the agent needs.
Pricing model
Zapier documents task-based billing: one MCP tool call uses two tasks from your Zapier plan, and MCP is available across its plans. So five successful calls use ten tasks. What that costs in dollars depends on your plan and how many retries or extra agent steps a job takes.
MCPifex prices by instance. Free covers 3 instances, Pro is $19/month ($190/year) for 10, and Team is $49/month ($490/year) for 30 with up to 5 members. Tool calls are unlimited on every plan. Details are on the pricing page.
| Zapier MCP | MCPifex | |
|---|---|---|
| What the agent gets | Zapier's pre-built actions per app | A hosted server's cataloged tools, filtered by your settings |
| Coverage | 9,000+ apps | Selected servers, see the marketplace |
| Billing | 2 tasks per call, from your Zapier plan | By instance count, calls unlimited |
| Tool control | Choose actions, approve or block, view history | Per-tool on/off, write tools off by default |
| Best for | Reaching many apps you already use with Zapier | A supported hosted data server with instance-level policy |
Which should you pick?
Choose Zapier MCP when your task spans several SaaS apps and its actions cover what you need. Check your task allowance against the number of calls you expect. As of September 2026, Zapier's app coverage is far broader than ours.
Choose MCPifex when you want a real MCP server run for you, such as PostgreSQL, Google Search Console or Google Trends, and you'd rather not count calls. Repeated database queries and reporting suit it well.
Before you commit, run one real task on test data. Count the calls, try a request for a disabled operation, and reconnect from the client your team actually uses.
Where MCPifex fits
MCPifex is a marketplace and hosted gateway for MCP. You never install or host the server yourself, and every call is logged per instance in the portal. Register free to try it, no card needed. For other comparisons, see MCPifex vs. Composio and hosted vs. self-hosted MCP.
